The Groundshift team conduct a farm assessment

Groundwork Groups

Grow your farm together

Small groups of 8 to 12 farm businesses in your region, making real changes on their own farms with independent advice from Groundshift. In person every quarter, online every month, for one to three years.

Here's the deal

Advice that fits your farm, and people to try it with

A Groundwork Group is a small group of farmers from your area who meet regularly to work on their farm systems together. The Groundshift team runs it and brings the technical knowledge.

It's not a talkfest, and it's not someone reading a slideshow at you. You get two things that are hard to find on your own. Advice built around your soils, your system and your goals, from people with nothing to sell you. And farmers close by who are trialling the same things, so you're not carrying all the risk yourself or guessing from case studies on the other side of the world.

What's included:

A Whole Farm Assessment

Full annual farm assessment for your soils, agronomy, finances and goals looked at together, ending in prioritised recommendations for your place.

In-person meets

Four in-person days a year with your Groundwork Group

Monthly Calls

A monthly online call in between, to check in, troubleshoot and keep things moving.

Full education programme

An education programme covering the fundamentals of biology-led farm systems, shaped around what your group is working on.

Advisory platform

Access to our advisory platform and knowledge base. Checked, NZ-relevant information matched to your system.

Shared Trials

So the group learns from more paddocks than just your own.

For farmers who are already asking the questions

You don't need to have it all figured out, and you don't need to call yourself regenerative. Groundwork Groups suit farmers who are curious about how better biological function can lift the health, profit and resilience of their farm, and want to work it out properly.

How it works

What goes into a group?

Think of it like a good sandwich. Four layers, each doing a job.

#1 - The Bread

The Groundshift Team

We hold it together. Facilitation, coaching, the advisory and community platforms, and the organising nobody else wants to do.

#2 - The Butter

Education

The fundamentals of healthy, profitable, biology-led farm systems, plus whatever your group is wrestling with at the time.

#3 - Cheese

Knowledge

Checked, credible information for NZ farms, matched to your system, soils and goals. Less time sorting good information from bad.

#4 – Meat

Your Group

The best bit. Farmers asking each other hard questions, sharing what worked and what didn't, and running trials together. (We're not eating you. Promise.)

Season by season

Your first year

One thing we won't promise is overnight results. Changing a farm system takes seasons, and sometimes you need to invest in soil function first to build a system that pays you back. The group is there so you're not doing that on your own.

#1

Register your interest

No commitment. We'll let you know when a group is forming near you.

#2

Have a chat with us

We talk through your farm and what you're after, and make sure the group is a good fit both ways.

#3

Whole farm assessment

We look at your soils, agronomy, finances and goals together, so your work in the group starts from what's actually happening on your place.

#4

Quarterly days with your group

In person, working through the fundamentals and the things your group wants to dig into.

#5

Monthly online calls

Check in, troubleshoot, compare trial results.

#6

End of the year

Decide whether to roll on for another 12 months.

Who turns up

The people in the room

Groundshift is an independent farm advisory business working with farmers across Aotearoa. We were set up in 2025 by a small group of agricultural leaders who think farmers deserve practical support without ideology or pressure. No products, no kickbacks, no quotas. Often our advice is to do less, not more.

Over the fence

Fair questions, straight answers.

Committing a year to anything is a fair-sized call, and you'll want to know what you're getting into first. These are the questions we'd be asking if we were in your gumboots. If yours isn't here get in touch and we'll answer them.

Yes, and we'd like you to. If you know a few farmers who'd be keen, become one of our Local Legends. We'll back you to pull the group together. Get in touch to find out what's involved.

As soon as there are enough farmers in your area to make a group. Taranaki is first, from November 2026, with Canterbury and Southland close behind. We're aiming for a group in every region by the end of 2027. Register and tell us where you farm. It helps us decide where to go next.

A look at your whole system at once: soils, agronomy, finances and goals. It ends in prioritised recommendations for your farm, and it's included in Year 1.

No. Groundshift is independent. No kickbacks, no quotas, no products to push. A lot of the time our advice is to spend less, not more.

12 months at a time. Groups run for one to three years, and you decide each year whether to carry on.

$8,500 for Year 1, which includes your Whole Farm Assessment. $7,000 a year from Year 2 onwards.

Yes. Some cohorts will be one sector, some a mix. It depends on who's keen in your area. Often agriculture is treated as silo's whereas in our experience we find there is a lot to learn from one another. We all have one thing in common - and that's soil and the health of it.

No. If you're shifting, or seriously curious, you're in the right place.

‍

A discussion group gives you the people. Groundwork Groups add structure, trusted knowledge, integrated education, and a commitment to having fun and growing together.
